The MTN College Prep Program

The MTN College Preparatory Program is a focused strategy, curriculum, and cohort-based program that centers around the college acceptance, selection & matriculation process.  This program is only available for high school seniors within the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Before the academic school year begins, high school seniors within the Atlanta metro area are encouraged to apply to The More than Number's College Prep Program. After reviewing applications, twelve students will be selected.

 

Once selected, students are paired with their selected MTN Mentor, hold one-on-one preparatory sessions, and attend monthly events. The College Prep Program cohort members will receive resources such as scholarship list, application packets, and much more! They will also get a chance to meet one another through cohort only bonding activities.

Cohort Members will gain skills in resume building, scholarship essay writing, and interviewing while forming relationships with college students and professionals. Their participation in the College Prep Program will make them eligible for the MTN Annual Cohort Scholarship, which is funded and provided by The More than Numbers Youth Program Incorporated.

The program itself is broken down into four phases that are curated to reflect the college admission & selection process.

The Purpose, Mission & Vision of the MTN College Prep Program

The purpose of The More than Numbers College Prep Program is to help black Atlanta-metro high school students transition into college. 

 

The vision of The More than Numbers College Prep Program is to provide every Atlanta-metro high school student with resources when preparing for the next steps in their educational career.

 

The mission of The More than Numbers College Prep Program is to create a way for black Atlanta metro students to receive the aid needed to get into a Southern School and HBCU while giving opportunities for growth, connection, and preparation.

Program Phases

Phase 1: Let's Prep!

In Phase One of The More than Numbers Program, Cohort Members will be set up with their MTN Team member. During Phase one, Cohort Members will meet the following criteria

  • Understand the College Application Process

  • Narrow down their schools from Easy, Challenge, and Reach 

  • Prepare for College Applications

The dates for Phase One are August 15th - September 30th. 

Phase 3: Figuring it Out!

In Phase Three of The More than Numbers Youth Program, Cohort Members will focus on narrowing a college decision, finding funding for college, and graduating from high school. During Phase Three, Cohort Members will meet the following criteria

  • Have at least two colleges/universities they are deciding between

  • Have applied for The MTN Scholarship (Cohort Scholarship)

  • Have an understanding of what their potential colleges offer. 

 

The dates for Phase Three are January 15th -  March 31st.

Phase 2: Apply, 
Apply, Apply!

In Phase Two of the More than Numbers Program, Cohort Members will focus on applying to the schools determined during their One-on-One college session. During Phase Two, Cohort Members will meet the following criteria

  • Understand the Next Steps After Applying for College

  • Have applied to at least ONE college/university early action

  • Have applied to at least ONE scholarship 

 

The dates for Phase Two are October 1st - December 15th.

Phase 4: Finish Strong!

In Phase Four of The More than Numbers Program, Cohort members will focus on deciding on a school, submitting their decision fee, and planning for steps after high school. During Phase Four, Cohort Members will meet the following criteria

  • Have Decided on the college/university they plan to attend

  • Have Graduated high school 

 

The dates for Phase Four are April 1st- June 15th.

What You Will Gain

The College Prep Program sets students up for success before, during, and after the college application process. The program has been able to help over 30 students get into schools, with over 75% of them gaining a merit-based or outside scholarship.

The 2024-2025 College Preparatory Members

Janii Corneh is a 2025 graduate from Douglas County High School. She received a full ride scholarship to Spelman College, an HBCU located in Atlanta, Georgia.  In school, she served in multiple clubs and organizations, including the National Black MBA Assocation, DECA, and more. She won the Dedication to Service Award for the MTN EOY Celebration. 

 

Sean Harris is a 2025 graduate from Alpharetta High School. He will be attending Kennesaw State University, located in Kennesaw, Georgia. Sean was selected as participant in the Student Television Network Competition. 

​

Erika Johnson is a 2025 graduate from Arabia Mountain High School. She will be attending Georgia State University, located in Atlanta, Georgia. She has many accolades, including receiving the principal's list, passing her computer science and criminal justice pathway tests, and many more. She won the Dedication to Mentorship Award for the MTN EOY Celebration.

Kaitlyn Johnson is a 2025 graduate from Westlake High School. She will be attending Alabama State University, an HBCU located in Montgomery, Alabama. She won the AB honor roll, was a member of DECA, BETA club, and a soccer manager. 

​

Jenna Jones is a 2025 graduate from Dutchtown High School. She will be attending North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University, an HBCU located in Greensboro, North Carolina. She has won over $500,000 worth of merit scholarships and was in the top 10% of her class. 

​

Madison Lloyd is a 2025 graduate from Westlake High School. She will be attending the Georgia Institute of Technology, located in Atlanta, Georgia. Madison was selected as a Zell Miller scholar within the state of Georgia and was a member of the National Honor Society. 

​

Taurean Lowe Jr. is a 2025 graduate from Westlake High School. He will be attending Alabama State University, an HBCU located in Montgomery, Alabama, on a full tuition scholarship. While at Westlake, he was selected as the section leader of the tenor section of the Westlake Drum Line and a top 25 student. He was selected as the Cohort Member of the Year. 

 

Muhammed Marrie is a 2025 graduate from Westlake High School. He will be attending Georgia State University, located in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a standout student.

Dakota Melvin is a 2025 graduate from the Rockdale Magnet School of Science and Technology. She will be attending Tuskegee University, an HBCU located in Tuskegee, Alabama, on a full tuition scholarship. 

​

Ava Williams is a 2025 graduate from Westlake High School. She will be attending Alabama State University, an HBCU located in Montgomery, Alabama on a full tuition scholarship as a 5-star scholar. She graduated top 10% of her class, served as Miss Beta Club, and was in Westlake High School's Orchestra. She was selected as the 2025 Perseverance Award winner for the MTN EOY Celebration.

Kennedy Williams is a 2025 graduate from Westlake High School. She will be attending Alabama State University, an HBCU located in Montgomery, Alabama on a full tuition scholarship as a 5-star scholar. She is one of the top 25 students in her class, earned the AP Scholar award, and was in Westlake High School's band. She was selected as the 2025 Dedication to Program winner for the MTN EOY Celebration.

Raquel Williams is a 2025 graduate from Westlake High School. She will be attending Kennesaw State University, located in Kennesaw, Georgia.  She received over 30 college acceptances and was a three year varsity track athlete.
